What is the One Piece?

Discussing the possible myths of the one piece.

What exactly is the one piece? The popular shounen anime ‘One Piece’ brings viewers along a pirate adventure filled with action and excitement. The pirate crew has Luffy as the leader and their goal is to find the ‘one piece,’ but what exactly is it?

The interesting part here is that it has never been clarified throughout the 900+ episodes so far about what the ‘one piece’ actually is. So in this article, I will be discussing the possible myths of the One Piece.

The most obvious myth in pirate terms is the one piece being a great treasure. This fits with the theme of pirates searching for gold and treasure as well.

It can be a different myth for each character as well, depending on their goals.

For Luffy, his goal is to become King of the Pirates, so the one piece would be when he has traveled all across the sea.

For Nami, her goal is to draw a completed world map, so her one piece would arrive when she has traveled across the world.

For Zoro, his goal is to become the greatest swordsman, so his one piece would arrive when he has defeated all the great swordsman around the world.

For Usopp, his goal is to become a great warrior of the sea, so his one piece can arrive by simply traveling with Luffy.

For Sanji, his goal is to find the All Blue, an ocean with all the fish in the world. His one piece would arrive once he has completed his search for it.

For Chopper, his goal is to become a great doctor, capable of curing any diseases. His one piece is possible through multiple trials of medical research, which can be achieved by traveling around to learn about different medicine in different lands as well.

For Robin, her goal is to unravel history’s secrets. Her one piece would be possible when she connects the different clues she finds throughout her travels.

For Frankie, his goal is to build a ship that is capable of sailing around the world. His one piece is possible by building a ship for Luffy and travelling with it and taking care of it as well.

Finally, for Brook. His goal is to return to his old friend, who is on the other side of the world. He can achieve his one piece by completing his travels with the crew.

Through some analysis, we can notice that there is a pattern here. Most of the characters’ dreams can be accomplished once they travel across the entire world. Hence, it makes me believe finding the One Piece means ‘completing your entire travels on the sea across the world.’

By shounen anime standards though, it could also be the friendships, the will to never give up on your dreams, and so forth. These would fit with the shounen anime theme as myths for the One Piece.

In the end though, this is all just my personal speculation. What do you think is the One Piece?
